Medical Acupuncture

Evidence-based acupuncture delivered by a Registered Nurse, with assessment, consent and clinical reasoning at the centre of every session.

What it is

Medical acupuncture uses very fine, single-use sterile needles placed at carefully selected points. In a modern clinical setting, the aim is to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue in a way that may influence pain processing, muscle tension, circulation and nervous system activity.

It is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Maxine starts with your health history, symptoms, medication, goals and comfort levels before deciding whether acupuncture is appropriate.

People often seek support for

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Muscular tension and trigger points
  • Headaches and migraine-type symptoms
  • Recovery from strain or overload
  • Stress-related physical tension

What the evidence says

Acupuncture is most commonly discussed in relation to pain. UK guidance and public health information describe acupuncture as a treatment people may use for some pain conditions, and NICE guidance includes acupuncture as an option in specific circumstances for chronic primary pain.

Evidence does not mean guaranteed results. It means treatment decisions are made carefully, with realistic expectations, ongoing review and referral onward where needed.

Your first appointment

New clients book an initial consultation and first medical acupuncture session. This allows time to understand the problem properly, screen for safety, explain the approach, and begin treatment where appropriate.
